We spent all of day 5 of the Mid Atlantic Tour in Cape May County, New Jersey. We started at Higbee Beach. It was mild with winds out of the Southeast. Southeast can be tough at Cape May. Today was no different. It was remarkably slow. But, we were outside and it wasn’t raining. We also birded Lily Lake, the Beanery, Coral Avenue Dunes, the Hawkwatch Platform, and the Meadows. We finished in the rain back at the Avalon Seawatch.
In all, we added 1 new bird for the year: Rusty Blackbird, #525. And we added 9 new birds for this tour bringing the tour total to 130 species.
Tomorrow we are taking the early trip on the Cape May, NJ-to-Lewes, DE ferry. The ferry ride is over an hour long. We’ll bird at Cape Henlopen, then hit as many Delaware Refuges as we can before ending the day at the ABA (American Birding Association) headquarters near Wilmington, DE.
